Welcome to Canvas Getting Started for Instructors

This is a basic introduction to using Canvas for your class needs. The course is organized into a series of modules which contain both textual and video guides to the various tools available in Canvas.To get started, please read these navigation instructions. You can also jump straight to the content folder area or find contact information for further assistance.

Course Navigation Instructions

This course is organized into a series of modules on topics like Notification Preferences, Syllabus, Gradebook, and more. Each module contains a series of text and image pages that walk you through the topic along with one or more short video segments that covers the same material. Please use whichever medium appeals to you more.

Basic Navigation

There are two ways to access the module on a given topic.

1. Use the linked folders below to jump to the start of the module on each topic.
2. Click on the Modules link in the Course Navigation menu to your left to be taken straight to the list of course Modules.

Note: Within the Modules list you can click on the arrow icon to the left of the Module title, circled below, to expand or contract the Module's content list. Doing so provides an easy way to jump straight to a particular topic without proceeding through the entire module which may be helpful for review or when seeking an answer to a particular question. This is also the fastest way to access the video tutorials which are at the end of each module.

Internal Navigation

Once inside a Module, you can use the Previous and Next buttons at the bottom of each page to navigate through the course. Alternatively, you can click on the Home or Modules links in the Course Navigation menu on your left at any time to return to a list of topics and content.

Click on the folder or title to access the first page of each Module.

If you have questions that aren't answered in this course, want further detail, or just want to ask a human being rather than searching for answers on your computer, there are several resources available to you.
